The Organ Donation and Transplant Association of Canada have to date contributed over $800,000 in medical research funding to foundations across Canada over the past four years.
This year we are pleased to announce that we estimate having approximately an additional $200,000 of funding for Canadian research organizations to support research in the area of transplantation. Our grants are provided to advance research in this field and we invite you to submit a research proposal for funding.
We are a Canadian registered Charity, registration number; 86069 7309 RR0001. Part of our mandate is to raise funds for Canadian medical researchers engaged in transplantation and drug development research.
We promote the cause of organ donation and transplantation to the public to; a) try and increase the low Canadian donor rates and b) to help reduce the number of organs lost that may have been saved through public awareness. We reach out to Canadians and engage in various activities to encourage people to take action by signing a donor and next-of-kin card, speaking with their families and raising funds to support transplant research.
We recognize the innovative and excellent work carried on throughout Canada in the field of transplantation, and the many challenges that continue to exist in this area due to the extreme shortage of available organs.
Our Charity is pleased to invite your organization to submit applications for research funding for research proposals related to transplantation. We estimate having funds available for distribution by the end of this year.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss with you any interest in these funds. You may also send proposals for funding to us in writing. Specific funding amounts will be determined by our Board and based on the number of submissions received. As part of our process, we will require a written proposal requesting support of research projects. As we plan to distribute these funds by the end of each calendar year.
Our Charity is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors who strongly supports this cause and have been touched in some way, by people who have either lost their lives while waiting for an organ transplant or know of a fortunate individual whose life has been saved by a transplant.
If your organization is known for making an excellent contribution in transplant research, there may be an opportunity to create a positive partnership that helps the many individuals on waiting lists and improves the lives of transplant recipients.
