Simple Ways You Can Help Save Lives
1. Sign an organ donor card and next-of-kin card. It is vitally important for you to discuss your decision with your family and friends to ensure that, in a time of crisis, your wishes will be remembered and honoured.
2. Ask your family doctor to display information and donor cards in their office. Materials are available upon request.
3. Take organ donation to work. Companies in your area can contribute to the health of Canadians without spending a cent. ODTAC will provide cards and informational material for distribution to employees.
4. Ask teachers in your area to present the Teens-4-Transplant program at their high schools. Interactive kits are available to encourage students to learn more about organ donation, become donors, and share information with family and friends.
5. “Spread the word” about organ donation in your neighbourhood. Presentation materials are available to assist you inspeaking to service clubs, funeral homes, and community and church groups in your area.
6. Investigate the breakthoughs taking place in medicine. Canadian scientists are wolrd leaders in transplant research. ODTAC helps fund the constant quest for improved methods and medicines.
7. Tell us your story. Reading about real people whose lives have been touched by the miracle or tragedy of organ transplantation inspires others to become involved. Do you have a story to share on the web or in published materials?
